During the innovation showcase on October 17, 2023 at the Transformation Hub, advances from the textile industry were presented that could potentially be applied in the world of wiring harnesses.

In his presentation "Unique and Customer-Specific Special Requests - Examples of the Production of Complex Textiles," Prof. Dr. Claus-Ekkehard Koukal from the Hof University of Applied Sciences introduced a technology in the production of woven and braided fabrics . He focused particularly on open-reed weaving and braiding as promising ideas and technological approaches that could have a significant impact on wiring harness production.

This technology not only enables complex thread routing, but also opens the door to comprehensive and efficient customization down to batch size 1. Prof. Dr. Koukal explained how these advanced approaches in fabric production can also be adapted to the wiring harness industry. Smart textiles in particular, in which functional integration such as the laying of cables for low-voltage lines plays a role, offer innovative impulses for wiring harness production.
