As part of the Sustainability theme day on March 19, 2026 Cornel Abratis of Aurubis AG presented a contribution on sustainable copper products and the role of primary and secondary raw materials in the European supply.
Under the "Tomorrow Metals" label, Aurubis aims to provide its customers with copper products that are leaders in sustainability efforts. The company already offers low-carbon copper products and plans to further reduce CO₂ emissions in the coming years.
Recycling copper scrap and copper- and multi-metal-containing residues makes a significant contribution to closing material cycles. At the same time, it is clear that this approach alone cannot meet future copper demand. Against this backdrop, the interplay of primary and secondary raw materials is becoming increasingly important for ensuring Europe's supply of high-conductivity copper.
This article thus highlights the key areas of action in which sustainability goals and security of supply can be combined.
