Find out all about Catena-X and its application in the automotive value chain. Catena-X provides a platform for secure and efficient data exchange along the entire supply chain. This is crucial to strengthen the competitiveness of the German automotive industry and to meet the requirements of modern production.

Catena-X is an open, collaborative data ecosystem for sovereign data exchange along the entire value chain of the automotive industry. Catena-X is thus pioneering this field and laying the foundations for data ecosystems in other industries as well (see Manufacturing-X ).
The common goal of Catena-X is to increase the competitiveness of the automotive industry and create new data-based business models. The continuity of data chains across the entire product and production lifecycle as well as along the entire supply chain offers the industry as a whole and each individual participant a wide range of added values. These range from greater resilience against the backdrop of numerous global challenges to more efficient processes.
The ten use cases with which the project was launched illustrate the areas where each participating company can benefit. These include areas such as sustainability, traceability, quality management, and demand and capacity management. Examples of the improvements achieved include more efficient quality and logistics processes, greater transparency regarding sustainable CO2 reduction, simplified master data management, and significant progress in product development.
Catena-X stands for data sovereignty: Data providers and data consumers should be able to exchange data legally and autonomously. Those who provide data retain control over their data and decide individually who receives it, when, for how long, and under what conditions. All standards and values are based on the guidelines developed by Gaia-X .
Certification and standardization by the Catena-X Automotive Network eV sets the common guidelines within which the shared infrastructure of the data ecosystem is built.
Catena-X is an ecosystem and not an ego system. The advantages of individuals are to be combined to create progress for the entire automotive industry. Building on shared values that are shaped by the European understanding of sovereign data exchange, Catena-X is pursuing a common approach. Suppliers and OEMs are to be brought together, with small and medium-sized companies acting on an equal footing with large corporations.
ARENA2036-X serves as a test environment for Catena-X, while the Transfer-X project offers easy access to Catena-X concepts and technologies. These initiatives demonstrate how Catena-X can be applied in practice and facilitate entry into the data ecosystem.
David Görzig from ARENA2036 presented these projects at the 3rd Innovation Showcase on March 19, 2024. For a comprehensive overview and classification of the technologies and projects, you can watch the following video and download the presentation as documentation (see top right).
