Robotics Challenge for the automation of wiring harness assembly

December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024

Welcome to the Robotics Challenge for automating wiring harness assembly!

The wiring harness in automobile production is an important component that has so far remained largely untouched by automation technologies. But can modern robotic solutions bring about the decisive change here? The Wiring Harness Transformation Hub called on the industry to take part in a robotics challenge that not only reflects the current challenges, but also offers manufacturers and system integrators of robotic systems a platform to present their innovative solutions.

The challenge was open from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024 (with an extension until March 14). The individual dates for the presentation of concepts were scheduled for March 2024. The presentation of the results took place as part of the Innovation Forum's line set in April 2024. A hardware kit was sent to all participants before work began to ensure a fair start.

The detailed one challenge and task description stands here available. Likewise, all Results the Robotics Challenge here processed and documented.

Mercedes-Benz Testimonial for the Robotics Challenge

"The automation of wiring harness production brings advantages for the OEM in particular in terms of process monitoring in the manufacturing process, the flexibility in the choice of wiring harness production locations and the traceability of wiring harnesses and their components. This robotics challenge exists in order to be able to consider potentials and explore new possibilities."
