Am June 11, 2024 our fourth virtual trend outlook event will take place, where you will have the next opportunity to gain insight into trending topics in the wiring harness industry. There will be two exciting presentations.
The first lecture entitled “Cable harness optimization from an architectural perspective – An outlook for zonal E/E architectures“ is presented by Dr.-Ing. Thomas Riemer and Jonas Maier. It deals with the influences of the architectural change towards zonal E/E architectures on the wiring harness as well as possible solutions. The Institute of Automotive Engineering at the University of Stuttgart (IFS) and its partner institute, the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS), are jointly addressing this change by developing tools for architecture design and optimization. The presentation focuses on the change towards zonal E/E architectures and shows what challenges and potential this presents for cable harness development. As part of the UNICARagil project funded by the BMBF, an architecture was developed that makes it possible to optimize the cable harness in zonal E/E architectures with regard to physical and structural criteria.
The second lecture deals with "Functional E-Integration using Wire Encapsulating Additive Manufacturing (WEAM)", presented by Dr.-Ing. Fabian Ziervogel of Fraunhofer IWU. The starting point is the problem that the integration of electronic components into assemblies requires a high proportion of manual work. The WEAM process presents a technology that further advances the automation of cable harnesses. Additive process steps eliminate the handling of flexible components and reduce the number of necessary process steps and materials. This forms the basis for automatically integrating and contacting any conductor structure in polymer components. Current system technology, application cases and research questions are presented.
The 4th Trend Outlook was well attended and the presentations by FKFS and Fraunhofer IWU showed the relevance of the topics for practice in wiring harness companies.
For all those who were unable to attend the event live, we will, as usual, provide both the presented slides and the recordings of the lectures. This allows us to share the knowledge gained and promote innovation in these important areas. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the speakers again for their excellent contributions.
If you have any questions about the presentations or the speakers, we are happy to help and can put you in touch with the experts if necessary. We are also happy to support you with further questions and in-depth discussions.
